How does Skype work? What do you have to pay for and what is free?

Can you answer Cait’s question about Conferencing?:
So I understand that it is free to call other Skype users from computer to computer.
If I call a cell or landline, how much does it cost me and how much does it cost the person I’m calling? (per minute or hour)
Does it cost anything extra to call internationally? (I’m going to Costa Rica for a month and I’m wondering about making calls back to the US and having people call me there.)
How about video conferencing between computers?

Conferencing Feedback: It free just go on the website, sign up and you can add you contacts from there.
Conferencing Feedback: Hello,
Talking with other Skype users is free but calling people is what you pay for.
Thanks,
Ian
Conferencing Feedback: Skype is great! Basically if you have a laptop with a camera you are golden, but if you have a desktop, then you will need a microphone and a camera [both easy to get and cheap too!]. From there, just go to skype.com, and they will guide you through the process. When you have an account, you add contacts. If those contacts have skype and are online at the time, then you can video chat with them for free. When you want to call a land line phone, you have to purchase credits, and then each credit is for a certain amount of talk time. Many people canceled their land line phones because you can get the phones that connect to the computer and buy credits and it is much cheaper. You can also play games with other skype members, like bowling. Hope I gave you all the needed info.
Conferencing Feedback: Oh,I think it’s a easy question you asked.
